dapple-grey with kind, knowing eyes.
Moon-lit dust motes float.

Dragon tails of ice
silently swirling -
      Christmas Eve.

Red-eyed raptor -
distracted
     by a butterfly.

Swirling leaves
          rustle, rise, fall,
   by lichen-covered boulders.

Tangled archway
    shadows the trail -
        juniper caresses oak.

Touching above the trail:
Pale juniper berries,
yellow oak leaves.

An orange leaf
  lands
on the sunning lizard.

Paper shrouded lights
glow above friends.
Outside, pumpkins grin.

Corn, wired to posts,
rustles by lit pumpkins,
under the Hunter's Moon.

A ghost,
carefully hung from a limb,
sways under the Hunter's Moon.

Autumnal scents
and steamy warmth -
apple butter making time.

Dark back rises,
   slides into the swell,
      beneath a vapory plume.

Fox leaps from dune grass,
      a quick tail flick -
gone in ocean fog.

Keening wind,
hissing sand -
   the ocean is whispering....

Fog promenades,
   meandering
among
   beach walkers.

   Crashing waves
cannot compete
   with the sea lion chorus.

Smoke twines the salmon stick
in the freshening breeze:
   tide shift.

A single Baird's
seems a bit shy
      among all the Western Sandpipers.

Fog hugs the still bay -
   spruce tops poke above
   capturing the sun's first rays.

The harbor seal
      yawns sleepily,
            floating in still water.

Grey, scudding skies -
   white bark arises,
      tinted with quaking, green leaves.

What needs saying
      about blue-grey skies
            above pine trees?

a paperclip,
      dusty, on the pavement -
somewhere, an idea runs free.

taking the lane -
   a hundred bike bells
chime under blue skies

The scent of a hundred flowers -
                            walking in the rain
                                       past grazing geese.

Cobwebbed attic,
   all moonglow and dust motes -
the doll stares.

Stars glint
   through shrouded branches -
       ebony eyes still above the limb.

A cool evening -
distant bell echoes
      off lapping waves.

Sun's early rays
slide past fog-shrouded hills,
over murmuring waves.

Wind-lashed waves rise,
crash onto rocks,
as pelicans serenely glide by.

Creaking rigging
heard over the bay -
a majestic turn in the sun.

Skyscraper'ed horizons -
sitting by a silent lake,
smelling blossoms.

warm and dry
inside a tea house
a gift elicits smiles

Yellow taxis flow past
a union memorial service
beneath Gothic spires.

People rush past
a chained, rusty bike -
its basket beflowered.

Tossed left, right,
the shuttle careens
under leaden Brooklyn skies.

House finch twitters
as black army helicopters
thrash a pale blue sky.

Curtain of snow, swirling.
Around the corner, a watery light,
then the engine appears.

   Heat of a March sun
   in my mountain town -
cool breeze as I pedal.

After the blizzard -
wind disperses snow
       from pines to my face.

Marsh sounds -
   blackbirds and mallards
      embraced by the white of a blizzard

dirt under fingernails -
   among the carrot row
      two hands touch

Two Great Blues circle,
their wings beat in unison,
through a ray of sun.

Mud to my knees:
A shattered chateau window
reflects a sickle moon.

After the train:
   the rails still softly sing
in the winter air.
