The fly is cornered -
the buzzing wings are still now
as the cat's tail flicks.

Winter dragons:
   northern wind animates
      tendrils of snow.

Long night,
sickle moon,
watery light on snow.

Mount Eldon glows
greenish hue dusted with ice
in the gathering dusk.

Candle light flickers -
the smell of warm bread inside,
snow swirls in the dark.

Three quarter moon -
crisscrossed by raven wings
in pale blue sky.

Red maple leaf dangles
over swirling river
as it rushes along.

Raven eyes
the spreading pool -
black in moonlit woods.

Spider, still,
   at gossamer center,
      feeling faint vibrations.

Moss spotted memorials
under full moon.
   Leaves rustle.

Friends sharing
a brief lull:
unconcerned birds among the litter.

Pacing out
the day's tasks -
oil stained parking lot.

   Jewel in the dew.
Four wings are better
to a dragonfly.

Asparagus stretch
their shadows in dusk.
Bat tumbles, soars.

Sun seems to stand still
   over penstemon, waving
in a Solstice breeze.

Dust twirls upward,
   windblown sheets of brown.
      Crow wings flap, going nowhere.

Debris on the tracks.
Two sheep in sheet of rain
as still as this train.

The River Ness
      twirls a goosander
            as it rushes along.

Old stone wall
   creeps through wind-bent grass
      outside Blair Atholl.

Washline, sheep, clattering bridge -
sunlight hops, oak to fir -
train to Inverness.

Herons crouch, feathers flared -
   preening as the pine sways
      over snow-swollen stream.

Strong southern wind
hisses through winter dried reeds
lifting a small butterfly.

Train roars past
   lifting tendrils of snow -
      ghosts dancing in the sun.

Blue snow under foot,
   heavy branches draped in white
      line the path into town.

She inhales, then dives
   as the sun sets -
      songs are song below.

Black tadpole rises
through the green, murky water -
Gulp! It sinks below.

A warm, sun-kissed day -
the crusty snow pile sulks
'neath a naked apple tree.

Halfway through winter,
   the sun sparkles on crystal snow
 swirled by arctic wind.

Rabbit, run!

   Open snow to tree's shadow,

      under a full moon.

   Surf swells, white foam forms
on rocks, lit by a setting sun.
   I close my eyes.

Wild geese in vees
   cross corn stubbled fields -
return as wood violets bloom.

Twisted icicles -
    from yoga studio's eaves
they gracefully drip.

   Canvasback, floating
on the top of a world
   swirling with trout dreams.

Groping through snowstorm,
   the quarry sails over drifts -
      Christmas bird count time.
