One shutter bangs, bangs, bangs
   letting winter enter
      the broken, grimy window.

   Ice shimmers on the street,
mirrors the stars in a cloudless sky
   as I bicycle home tonight.

Pedal through splintered ice
    then a small lake, in potholes.
Brown water hisses under me.

Sun on snow.
   Birds crowd the feeder
      as the cat chitters, frustrated.
